StructureWorks 2011 FAQ's

How do I know what system requirements are necessary?

We will work with you to assess your current system and present a plan for any upgrade you may need to acquire.

Why do I need to create a 3D model? I just want to make drawings.

There are several advantages to using a 3D CAD package for generating models:

  • Visualization
Creating a 3D model makes complex areas of a project or product much easier to interpret and design.
  • Parametric relations of products and connections
Products and connections are all related to each other, so if one moves everything connected moved to. This will reduce or eliminate the downstream errors causes by the typical 2D multi document methodology used today.
  • Produce production drawings automatically
Production-ready, detailed drawings are automatic without drawing a single line or arc. StructureWorks 2011 eliminates time-consuming drawing view creation, manipulation, and maintenance. In many cases drawings for simpler products become more of a report that gets created, while the more difficult products still see a 50-70 percent time reduction.
  • Revise drawings easily
Each modification made to a 3D model created with StructureWorks 2011 is reflected accurately throughout all associated views, sheets, and drawings. All drawing views, dimensions, and annotations update automatically.
  • Eliminate guesswork with associative dimensions
Adding, referencing, or changing a dimension value in a drawing or part model is easy with StructureWorks 2011 software. The geometry updates automatically to accommodate each change, eliminating inconsistencies, and assuring the accuracy of StructureWorks 2011 drawings.
  • Generate bills of materials instantly
Speed the development of drawings for designs that contain hundreds or thousands of parts by generating bills of materials (BOMs) automatically.
  • BIM Implementation
Exporting a 3D model to many different file types ensures BIM compliance for any project.

How much training will I need to get up to speed on StructureWorks 2011?

Most users are productive after attending Level 1 and 2 courses. After discussing your training needs, we will develop a custom roadmap for your company.

I've been hearing a lot about new techniques. What is this all about?

We have introduced industry specific techniques and processes that maximize performance and productivity. These techniques have been developed and proven to work in the precast industry. StructureWorks 2011 is the only SolidWorks OEM reseller to employ and demonstrate these techniques. Not only have they proven to be critical to cycle time reduction but to dramatically simplify working through a project from start to finish. All customers are encouraged to discuss these techniques to see how they can increase productivity for their company.

Why do I need StructureWorks? Why not just use SolidWorks?

StructureWorks spent many years creating the tools, and methodologies needed to make 3D software more productive than the current 2D project creation methodologies. With this you will also receive reports and data integration that out of the box 3D software cannot provide.

How does StructureWorks integrate with Piece Tracker?

Piece Tracker can import data from StructureWorks, such as pieces, quantity, weight, length, width, depth, BOM, etc. This will reduce the amount of data entry and errors created during this process.

What other services does StructureWorks provide?

StructureWorks is a full service provider of StructureWorks 2011, SolidWorks and Piece Tracker software. We provide the following services:

  • Pre-sales introduction of our software
  • Identification of customers' needs
  • Technical support provided by Certified Support Technicians
  • Training provided by Certified Instructors
  • Implementation support and project management
  • Integration of StructureWorks with Current ERP systems

What else can I do with a 3D model?

With a 3D model you can:

  • Perform interference detection analysis to ensure components are not going to crash into one another before going into production.
  • Run finite element analysis on weldment or connection assemblies to determine stress and strains, and possible areas of failure.
  • Instantly determine the weight and center of mass of a component .
  • Develop powerful presentations and review materials for customers.
  • Easily reuse components for new projects without starting over.
  • Provide Customers and sub-trades with BIM compliant 3D models.
